IAED 263 History of Built Environment I

Concepts of ``history'' and ``continuity'' as surveyed through selected examples from the built environment, from prehistory to the end of the Byzantine era, with particular emphasis on the interior space. Neolithic, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine periods in the West, and classical Islam, Ommiad, Abbasside and Seljuk civilizations in the East are particular areas of study.
Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 5.
