FA 362 Philosophy of Art II

In this course, we will examine a number of the ways that philosophy and modern art have come into dialogue with each other. These dialogues have taken many different forms: philosophers have written about artists and their works, and sometimes artists have appropriated the ideas of philosophers and created works that are inspired by their readings of philosophers. Within this matrix also is investigated what constitutes a work of art, artistic representation, the nature of aesthetic qualities, and the relevance of artist's intentions to the evaluation of works of art. Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 6, Prerequisite: FA 361.
